Welcoming 50

This December I will mark 5 decades on this earth. I must admit that where I come from, and the challenges faced, I didn’t think I would see these days but my faith has proven me wrong yet again.

My grandmother deserves part of the praise as she was the first person I witnessed the technical part of fashion. I grew up around her sewing machine and her long hours of making dresses for her daughter and myself. She wanted to create her own studio in her homeland, Dominican Republic but it never happened and so.. maybe, this is my homage to her dream.

I was born and raised in Harlem but I have lived abroad in both the Caribbean and Italy and marriage brought me to Rockland County.

Today, along with teaching at The High School of Fashion Industries and privately at The New York Sewing Center, I have earned my NYS Certification in Fashion Design as a Licensed Private Career School Teacher.

I am coming towards the end of my career as a Public High School teacher in the Art of Fashion Design, and because I live to do what I love, stopping is not an option. The next part of my career will be to continue in the Art of Teaching what I love and Creating what I love, Fashion, in the place I now call home, Pearl River.
